The Taizhou Mansion, located in a bustling old town, stands as a testament to Feng Cheng's innovative approach to architecture. Despite the narrow site, Cheng was able to design a building that not only blends seamlessly with its surroundings but also offers a peaceful retreat from the city's chaos. The project's unique character is defined by its winding paths and beautifully framed spaces, reminiscent of a traditional Chinese garden.
What sets the Taizhou Mansion apart is its successful implementation of standardization and modularization, the first of its kind for Vanke, the project's commissioner. This innovative approach allowed the design team to separate the site from the noisy outdoor areas, creating an exquisite arcadia in the heart of the city.
The building's unique design is complemented by its choice of materials. White sandstone, metallic aluminium sheet, glass, and metal grids were used in its construction, adding to its modern appeal. The building covers an area of 437 square meters, set on a land area of 2616 square meters.
The design team, including Yuanfeng Xu, Shuo Xu, and Qinggang Zhu, faced numerous challenges during the project's realization. The project's location in an old town presented a messy environment, and the implementation of a standardized module design was a first for Vanke. Despite these challenges, the team was able to design a building that makes a positive contribution to its surroundings.
The Taizhou Mansion is more than just a commercial building. It is a testament to the possibilities of innovative design, blending tradition with modernity, and creating a peaceful oasis in the heart of a bustling city. Its recognition with the Golden A' Design Award is a testament to its outstanding design and the team's extraordinary excellence in architecture.
